36th COTSEAL ANNUAL CONFERENCE at SEASSI 2020

Collaborations and Professionalization in Southeast Asian Language Teaching

June 19-20, 2020

University of Wisconsin, Madison



COTSEAL invites participants from academic institutions, teachers, researchers, and graduate students who are interested in, involved in, or have conducted research on Southeast Asian language education and linguistics to submit abstracts to the conference.



Paper/presentation topics may include, but are not limited to:

·        Collaborations in SEA language teaching and material development

·        Different approaches in teaching SEA languages

·        Proficiency, project, community-based learning

·        Heritage language learners

·        Distance learning and flipped classrooms

·        University policies & related issues affecting SEA language instruction

(We encourage participants of the SEALC-sponsored Oral Proficiency Workshop for SEA Language Teachers at UW-Madison in December 2019 to present the results of their group work.)



Abstract Submission Deadline: April 6, 2020

Notification of Acceptance: April 20, 2020



An abstract proposal should include the title, a brief description of 250 words maximum, and a presenter profile that should include your name, institution, email address, and phone number. Send them as two email attachments (MS words/pdf) to jwijaya@humnet.ucla.edu, Subject line: COTSEAL 2020 Abstract Submission.

                           

The conference registration is $40, but it is free for COTSEAL active members.

Travel Grants
COTSEAL is offering partial matching travel grants to help lecturers and graduate students whose papers are accepted to present at the conference. Please indicate if you would like to apply for the travel grant in your submission email. 2015 COTSEAL Conference Program Now Available

COTSEAL is pleased to announce the 23rd Annual COTSEAL/SEASSI Conference on Southeast Asian Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics.

The conference will be held in Room 206, Ingraham Hall, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.  If you attend, please also plan to stay for SEASSI/COTSEAL Poetry Night, 7-9 pm on Saturday, July 18.

the Continuing Journey in the Teaching of SEA Languages


Venue: 206 Ingraham Hall, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Dates: Friday and Saturday, July 17-18, 2015


KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Abigail Cohn (Professor, Department of Linguistics, Cornell)
Teaching of Southeast Asian Languages in the US:
Impact of National Priorities and Institutional Policies”


COTSEAL invites participants from academic institutions, teachers, researchers, and graduate students who are interested in, involved in, or have conducted research on, SEA language education and linguistics to submit abstracts for the forum. Paper topics may include, but are not limited to, challenges and techniques in:
  • Distance learning
  • Flipped classrooms
  • Heritage students
  • Project-based learning
  • Significant, less commonly discussed teaching issues
  • University policies related-issues, such as enrollment and teaching assistantship

TYPE OF PRESENTATION

20-minute presentations, with an additional 10 minutes for questions/responses.
Posters (to be displayed at designated times throughout the conference).

IMPORTANT DATES

Deadline for abstract submission: 25 May 2015
Deadline for full paper submission: 15 June 2015

CONTENT OF ABSTRACT PROPOSAL

An abstract proposal should include the title, a brief abstract of 250 words maximum, and your name, institution, email address, and phone number.
We request that all presenters be paid members of COTSEAL ($26 for one year) at the time of the conference.

SUBMISSION

Abstracts and proposals must be submitted via email to the organizing committee:
Limited matching travel grants are available for confirmed presenters on a first-come, first-served basis. Please indicate if you want to be considered for a travel grant in the body of the e-mail with which you submit your abstract. Note that travel grants are reimbursements intended for lecturers with minimal funds available from their institutions to support travel to the conference. For more details, visit

22nd Annual Conference on Southeast Asian Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics

July 18th-19th, 2014 University of Wisconsin-Madison

The Council of Teachers of Southeast Asian Languages (COTSEAL) and the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison sponsor the 22nd Annual Conference on Southeast Asian Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics on Friday, July 18th, and Saturday, July 19th, 2014 in 206 Ingraham Hall, University of Wisconsin-Madison. The theme for the conference is "New Challenges in Southeast Asian Language Teaching." Papers and presentations could address (but are not limited to) the following topics: distance learning, funding issues, classroom management, oral and written discourse issues in language teaching. Each presentation should take no more than thirty minutes (20 minutes for the presentation and 10 minutes for questions and discussion).

The COTSEAL/SEASSI Conference is ON for July 18-19 2014, Madison, WI

I'm happy to announce that the COTSEAL summer conference on language teaching will return this year, and be held as usual in conjunction with SEASSI at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The dates for the conference are Friday and Saturday, July 18-19, 2014.  A conference committee is being formed even as we speak, and a call for papers will be published by the end of April.  This year, COTSEAL will be offering matching travel grants to be combined with funding from presenters' home institutions--stay tuned to this blog for more soon!
