Position Available: Visiting Lecturer in Vietnamese, Brown University Dept. of E. Asian Studies

 

The Department of East Asian Studies at Brown University seeks a dynamic language professional for a full-time position as Visiting Lecturer in Vietnamese language beginning July 1^st, 2021. The ideal candidate has experience teaching modern Vietnamese to undergraduate as well as to heritage learners. This is a two-year renewable appointment contingent upon a successful review and the continued needs of the department. 

Requirements are: 1. Ability to teach multiple levels of Vietnamese; 2. Familiarity with and commitment to innovative methods of language instruction; 3. Master’s degree or equivalent in Vietnamese language/culture, linguistics, language pedagogy, applied linguistics/second language acquisition or a related field; 4. Native or near-native proficiency in Vietnamese and strong skills in spoken and written English; 5. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness; 6. Experience with online language teaching is preferred and ability to teach an undergraduate course in English on a topic pertaining to the candidate’s discipline and research is especially welcome.

Brown University has a thriving East Asian Studies Program and seeks to expand its language and content offerings in Vietnamese Studies. The ideal candidate would be motivated to help expand the program through excellence in teaching and programming relevant to undergraduate students.

Part-time Vietnamese Language Lecturer position at UW-Seattle

Part-time Lecturer in Vietnamese

The Department of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Washington seeks to appoint a 50% part-time Lecturer in Vietnamese. The initial appointment, beginning Autumn Quarter 2019, is for three years, with the possibility of renewal. Applicants must have at least an M.A. degree or foreign equivalent in Vietnamese, foreign language teaching, or another relevant area. Native or native-equivalent proficiency in Vietnamese, English fluency, and at least one year of experience teaching at the college or university level are required. The successful applicant will be expected to teach Vietnamese language at all levels, to develop curricula and teaching materials, to team-teach, and to train and supervise teaching assistants. The University of Washington has a vibrant and growing Vietnamese language program. University of Washington faculty members engage in teaching and service.  This position is non-tenure-track and has a 9 month (September 16th – June 15th) service period.

VTN 101 - Elementary Vietnamese 1 (5 credits) will be offered as an online course via Arizona State University Online this fall semester.  Fall semester at Arizona State University starts August 20 - December 4.  Please help publicize this new course to those who are interested.
