~Morning session: 11:00 am – 12:30 pm PDT: Workshop
Achieving Coherence in Content-Based Instruction Using the 6 Ts Framework
by Donna M. Brinton*
As a syllabus type, CBI provides an alternative to other types of language syllabi (e.g., the grammatical syllabus, the notional syllabus, the task-based syllabus), enabling the course designer to specify the overall course goals, the topics to be explored, the materials to be used, the academic skills and language issues to be covered, and the assignments to be completed. The 6 Ts framework (Stoller & Grabe, 2017) as a remedy for achieving course coherence will be introduced. Each of the 6 Ts (themes, topics, texts, tasks, transitions, and threads) will be discussed and illustrated.
