As many of you know, COTSEAL regularly sponsors a panel on language teaching and related linguistics issues at the annual Association for Asian Studies Conference.
The 2016 conference will be held in Seattle, Wa, March 31-April 3. The deadline for panel proposals and abstracts is August 2, 2015.
As this conference will be held in her home city, Pauli Sandjaja of the University of Washington-Seattle has graciously volunteered to organize a COTSEAL-sponsored panel at the conference. She will do the work of collecting abstracts and contact information, writing the panel proposal abstract, and submitting everything to AAS by the deadline. However, she--and we--need you to make it happen. Pauli and I have come up with the two following possible broad themes for the panel:
1. Issues, recent research, and approaches regarding the teaching of pronunciation (including listening) in Southeast Asian languages, including the phonology and phonetics of language learning.
2. Issues, recent research, and approaches regarding assessment of any and all of the four skills in Southeast Asian languages, including proficiency assessment, intake assessment, ongoing assessment, and final evaluation in language courses.
If you are interested in being a presenter or a discussant on a panel addressing either of these topics, please contact Pauli directly, with your contact information and the abstract of your paper, by ---July 6th 2015---.
