COTSEAL Conference at SEASSI 2015


The ABCDs (Achievement, Breadth, Challenges, and future Direction) of
the Continuing Journey in the Teaching of SEA Languages


Venue: 206 Ingraham Hall, University of Wisconsin-Madison
Dates: Friday and Saturday, July 17-18, 2015


KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Abigail Cohn (Professor, Department of Linguistics, Cornell)
Teaching of Southeast Asian Languages in the US:
Impact of National Priorities and Institutional Policies”


COTSEAL invites participants from academic institutions, teachers, researchers, and graduate students who are interested in, involved in, or have conducted research on, SEA language education and linguistics to submit abstracts for the forum. Paper topics may include, but are not limited to, challenges and techniques in:
  • Distance learning
  • Flipped classrooms
  • Heritage students
  • Project-based learning
  • Significant, less commonly discussed teaching issues
  • University policies related-issues, such as enrollment and teaching assistantship

TYPE OF PRESENTATION

20-minute presentations, with an additional 10 minutes for questions/responses.
Posters (to be displayed at designated times throughout the conference).

IMPORTANT DATES

Deadline for abstract submission: 25 May 2015
Deadline for full paper submission: 15 June 2015

CONTENT OF ABSTRACT PROPOSAL

An abstract proposal should include the title, a brief abstract of 250 words maximum, and your name, institution, email address, and phone number.
We request that all presenters be paid members of COTSEAL ($26 for one year) at the time of the conference.

SUBMISSION

Abstracts and proposals must be submitted via email to the organizing committee:
Limited matching travel grants are available for confirmed presenters on a first-come, first-served basis. Please indicate if you want to be considered for a travel grant in the body of the e-mail with which you submit your abstract. Note that travel grants are reimbursements intended for lecturers with minimal funds available from their institutions to support travel to the conference. For more details, visit
